Crisis Response Counseling
The Elizabethtown Area School District partners with Empower the Mind to provide onsite crisis response counseling services for students in grades 6–12 experiencing significant social, emotional, or behavioral crises. These services are designed to provide immediate intervention when students are experiencing situations such as self-harm, suicidal ideation, panic attacks, or other concerns that may place the student or others at risk.
Working alongside the District's Student Support Services team, the onsite crisis counselor provides timely support to help stabilize students, assess immediate needs, and connect families with appropriate next steps and community resources when necessary.
How the Program Works
When a student is identified as needing immediate crisis intervention, a member of the District's Student Support Services team will coordinate services with the onsite crisis counselor. Parents or guardians will be contacted as appropriate based on the student's needs and the nature of the situation.
In situations where additional evaluation is necessary, the crisis counselor may recommend that the student receive emergency medical or behavioral health services. Parents or guardians will be contacted immediately. If emergency transportation is required and a parent or guardian is unable or unwilling to transport the student, emergency medical services (EMS) may be contacted when deemed necessary by the crisis counselor.
Cost of Services
Crisis response counseling services are provided at no cost to families through funding approved by the Board of School Directors.
These services are intended to provide immediate crisis intervention and short-term follow-up. Families may choose to pursue additional outpatient counseling or other behavioral health services following the crisis intervention.
Opt-Out Option
Parents and guardians may choose to opt their child out of receiving crisis response counseling services provided through Empower the Mind.
