Section 504
The Elizabethtown Area School District offers services and accommodations to ensure that protected handicapped students have an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from school programs and extracurricular activities. These services are provided at no cost to the student or their family and are available without discrimination. To qualify as a protected handicapped student, the child must be of school age and have a physical or mental disability that substantially limits or prevents participation in one or more major life activities.
It is important to note that the services and protections available to protected handicapped students under Section 504 differ from those provided to students who are eligible for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
