Protected Handicapped Students (Section 504)
The Elizabethtown Area School District offers services and accommodations to ensure that protected handicapped students have an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from school programs and extracurricular activities. These services are provided at no cost to the student or their family and are available without discrimination. To qualify as a protected handicapped student, the child must be of school age and have a physical or mental disability that significantly limits or prevents participation in any aspect of the school program.
It's important to note that the services and protections for protected handicapped students differ from those for students with disabilities who are enrolled in or seeking enrollment in special education programs. For more information about the evaluation process and the services available for protected handicapped students, please contact the special education office at (717) 367-1521, ext. 50561.
