Diabetes Management

Elizabethtown Area School District is committed to supporting students with diabetes by ensuring consistent, effective practices for managing their health needs at school. We work closely with parents, healthcare providers, and school staff to develop Diabetes Medical Management Plans (DMMPs) that outline daily care, accommodations, and emergency response procedures.

The school nurse plays a key role in implementing these plans and coordinating care. Many students with diabetes may also qualify for accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ensuring they receive the necessary support for a safe and inclusive learning environment. The school nurse will collaborate with the building 504 coordinator as needed to facilitate this process.
