Health & Student Wellness

The National Association of School Nurses defines school nursing as the specialized practice of professional nursing that advances students' well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement.

To that end, the purpose of the Elizabethtown Area School District Health Services Department is to prevent diseases and maintain health, which enables students to focus on their education and reach their maximum potential to learn. Interventions are limited to problems that happen during the school day and directly affect performance and participation in the classroom.

Four Certified School Nurses (CSN) comprise the Elizabethtown Area School District Health Services Department. CSNs are Registered Nurses (RN) with a bachelor's degree or higher in nursing and graduate credits as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for certification. In addition, the nurses may have a Health Room Nurse, who is a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), who is delegated to care for your child in the certified school nurse's absence

School nurses support our school learning environments by:

  • Facilitating positive student responses to normal development
  • Promoting health and safety
  • Intervening with actual and potential health problems
  • Providing case management services
  • Collaborating with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

If you wish to speak to a member of the health services department concerning your child, please contact the school nurse or healthroom nurse in your child's building.
