EAHS students place at SkillsUSA competition

February 13, 2020- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Alexander Miller and Devan Bickhart recently earned awards at the District 5 SkillsUSA event held at the Franklin County Career and Technology Center. Miller placed second in the Mechatronics category while Bickhart placed third in the Welding category.
EAHS's SkillsUSA Award Recipients
The Mechatronics competition consisted of three events designed to measure the skills required in the modern automated manufacturing environment. Contestants are required to assemble, adjust and test an automated machine system, troubleshoot and repair a faulty machine system and take a comprehensive written test.

Competitors in the Welding division receive contest drawings and a set of welding procedure specifications. Competitors complete the steel project and weld an aluminum project in various positions using a variety of filler metals.

SkillsUSA is a national organization that focuses on preparing students for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. SkillsUSA offers local, state and national opportunities for students can to learn and practice personal, workplace and technical skills. The technical competitions help establish industry standards for job skill training and entry-level workers. SkillsUSA is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a successful model of employer-driven youth development training.
