EAHS Student Places at Regional High School Sales Competition

May 17, 2022- Elizabethtown Area High School senior Katrina Hook placed third at Susquehanna University’s inaugural High School Sales Competition. The competition was open to all Pennsylvania high school students in central and southeastern Pennsylvania. It allowed participants to learn about the sales process and showcase their selling skills in a sales call role play with business professionals. Katrina Hook

Designed as a two-round role play, students were directed to sell a specific product – a Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins ice hockey game package designed to boost engagement among the potential buyer’s employees. Each round included a brief scenario, a particular goal, a potential close, a specific time limit, and a scoring rubric. Buyers and judges were a mix of sales professionals and Susquehanna faculty and sales students. After the initial sales call, the top ten competitors made it to the second round, where they got to close a deal with the company. By placing third overall, Hook earned a $1,000 scholarship to Susquehanna University and $500 prize money.

According to Michele Welliver, assistant professor of communications and professional sales program coordinator at Susquehanna University, the competition helps educate high school students about professional selling careers. “Students who participated in our sales competition gained vital business and communication skills that will help them build their portfolios as they look ahead to their college careers and beyond,” said Welliver.
