EAHS National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

September 20, 2021- Elizabethtown Area High School senior Bryan Murray has been named 2021-2022 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, one of the highest distinctions a high school student can receive. The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Bryan MurrayOver 1.5 million high school juniors entered the academic recognition program by taking the 2020 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of entrants. Semifinalists must fulfill multiple requirements to become a finalist. To become a finalist, the semifinalist and a high school official must provide information about the semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.

From the approximately 16,000 semifinalists named this year, about 15,000 are expected to become finalists. Every finalist will compete for a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship that will be awarded on a state representational basis. In addition, semifinalists also have the opportunity to compete this upcoming spring for approximately 7,500 National Merit Scholarships valued at more than $31 million awarded by businesses, corporations and colleges and universities.

Murray is the son of Tom and Debi Murray.
