November 19, 2020- This fall, Mill Road Elementary School's students and staff continued their annual tradition of collecting food items for needy families in our community. Given the impact the global health pandemic has had financially on many families in our community, this year's food drive took on an even greater meaning.
With a schoolwide focus on "Giving" and "Gratitude," students brought in non-perishable food items like canned gravy, canned corn and vegetables, instant potatoes, stuffing, instant mac-n-cheese, and canned soups. Students also donated personal care items like soap, shampoo, toilet paper, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
In total, eight families from the Elizabethtown community will receive a Thanksgiving food box. The school will give any leftover food items to the local Community Cupboard. The families will also receive a voucher for a free Thanksgiving takeout meal from the River House Bar and Grill complements of a local church.
As part of the District's Life Ready Model, student participation in altruistic projects extends learning beyond our school system's four walls. These experiences empower students to give back to their community and build the foundation to become productive adult citizens.
