East High Street Elementary School supports holiday Giving Tree and Food Drive

December 21, 2020- One of the many traditions at East High Street Elementary School is its annual Giving Tree and Food Drive. Timed to coincide with the holidays, 38 families currently experiencing financial difficulty will benefit this year by receiving presents and food items to make the holiday a little more special.

Coordinated by the school's counseling department and PTO, the Giving Tree allowed the school's faculty, staff, and PTO to give back to the community they work and live in by purchasing gifts off a wish list supplied by the families in need of the holiday assistance. Each year, the program brings holiday cheer to countless children in our community who will receive individually wrapped gifts. The presents could come in many forms, including hats, gloves, jackets, or a much-wanted toy.

The food collection encouraged students and staff to bring in the non-perishable food items. District staff delivered the food boxes before the school district's Winter Recess. The baskets will include an assortment of soups, sauces, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, dessert mixes, and much more.

As part of the District's Life Ready Model, student participation in altruistic projects extends learning beyond our school system's four walls. These experiences empower students to give back to their community and build the foundation to become productive adult citizens.
