EAMS Delivers Food Baskets For Thanksgiving

November 22, 2022- Elizabethtown Area Middle School raised $3,136 through this year's Feathers for Families initiative. The school used the funds to put together Thanksgiving food baskets for several local families. The baskets contained all the ingredients for a Thanksgiving dinner, including a gift certificate for a turkey, a vegetable, bread, potatoes, yams, stuffing, and gravy. In addition, leftover proceeds were used to purchase gift cards to help further support families in need in our district throughout the holiday season.F4F Pic

EAMS launched the Feathers for Families program in 1995. The philanthropic initiative has steadily grown since then. The school raised $750 to put together food baskets in year one. This year, the school began selling paper feathers in early November. The paper feathers were used to construct a giant paper turkey in the food court as a visual representation of the fundraising success.

The Feathers for Families initiative is a school-wide effort. In addition to purchasing feathers, students visited Weis Markets to purchase the food items, assemble the food baskets, and help the faculty and staff deliver the baskets.

EAMS is grateful for the community's generosity in helping this year's program be a success. Thanks to the many feather purchases, the school can ensure families in our community have a nice holiday season.
