School Lunch Update 2022-2023

Meals No Longer Free for All Students in the 2022-2023 School Year

All public school students across the country, including here in Elizabethtown, received one free lunch and one free breakfast daily the last two school years under a temporary, federally-funded pandemic relief program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The United States Congress has NOT renewed the funding for this relief program. Our District does not qualify for any targeted federal funding that some communities may still be eligible for to continue offering free meals. As a result, the District will start charging fees again for meals beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. What does this mean to you? Families that don't meet the federal income requirements for free or reduced-price lunches will have to resume paying for their child's meals if purchased in our school cafeterias.

As was the case before the pandemic, families experiencing economic hardship are encouraged to apply for free or reduced meal benefits. Click the link below to review the income eligibility information. If, after review you feel that you may qualify, fill out an application by clicking on the Free and Reduced Lunch Online Application link below. The online application only takes a few minutes and is the fastest, easiest way to get approved. Families must apply for free and reduced meal benefits each year regardless of whether or not they received benefits in the past. The online application opens on August 1, 2022.

Households that qualify for meal benefits may also be eligible for additional programs/services offered by the District and will have school district participation fees waived. Please note that your participation in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program is highly confidential, with only a limited number of school district representatives aware of eligibility. For your convenience, we have also provided a link to the District's SchoolPay platform and meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year below. SchoolPay is a payment service that allows families to pay for items such as lunch accounts and athletic fees online.
