Crisis Intervention Services - ECHOS

The Elizabethtown Area School District has partnered with Elizabethtown Community Housing and Outreach Services (ECHOS) to help the District remove barriers to learning for our students in grades 7-12. Highly trained professionals from ECHOS will supplement our student support services division by providing crisis intervention services to secondary students that are in extreme and urgent need (i.e. harmful peer relationships, anxiety and depression, suicide ideations).

The collaboration with ECHOS is part of our ongoing efforts to afford ALL students with an environment where they feel safe and one that is conducive for learning. This partnership will allow the District to assist students that are experiencing significant social and emotional challenges at a greater level than the District’s support service division is able to do.

When a member of our student support services division is working with a student who would benefit from the trained professionals from ECHOS, we will make every attempt to notify families prior to the interaction. However, in some instances timing is of the utmost importance and the professional from ECHOS will begin their intervention immediately and follow up with a parent/guardian at the conclusion of the crisis counseling.

The crisis counseling services are provided at no cost to families as this initiative is funded through Pennsylvania’s Act 44 of 2018 (School Safety and Security Act). Please note, upon completion of the immediate intervention, the team from ECHOS does not provide further evaluation or treatment services. It is up to you to decide if you want to obtain any additional services for your child.

The partnership with ECHOS offers our District an outstanding community resource in our efforts to support the social emotional needs of our students, especially those experiencing an acute and sudden social emotional crisis. With that said, parents/guardians do have the right to opt their child out of receiving the intervention services from ECHOS. To do so, please click on the link below and complete the opt out form for the child(ren) you wish to opt out of this service by November 22, 2019.

If you have any questions about our support services division or the partnership with ECHOS, please contact Richard Schwarzman, assistant to the superintendent for support services and compliance, by phone at (717) 367-1521 or by email at richard_schwarzman@etownschools.org.
