Administrative Restructuring

Dear Parent or Guardian:

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, I want to take a moment to update you on some leadership changes that will go into effect for the 2019-2020 school year. As you may know, Dr. Annette Spagnolo, principal of the Bear Creek School, has accepted a senior leadership position with the Palmyra Area School District and will not be returning to EASD next year. Dr. Spagnolo’s resignation provided us with an opportunity to look at its current administrators and restructure assignments based on District needs (K-12) and the strengths and experiences of our administrators. The goals of the restructuring were as follows:

  • Maintain the high level of building leadership that currently exists in each building.
  • Prepare to achieve our instructional vision with strong emphasis on preparing students to be life ready.
  • Support our building renovation program that will see new grade-level configurations at the primary and intermediate elementary level, as well as the middle school level.

I am pleased to announce that we have developed the following long-term plan for the Bear Creek School, Elizabethtown Area Middle School, and East High Street Elementary that will go into effect for next school year. Bainbridge, Mill Road, and Rheems Elementary Schools, as well as Elizabethtown Area High School are unaffected by the restructuring.

Dr. Nate Frank has accepted the position of principal for the Bear Creek School. Dr. Frank has been principal of Elizabethtown Area Middle School since August 2014. Dr. Frank holds a doctorate degree in education policy from the University of Maryland, a Master’s Degree in teaching and curriculum from Penn State University - Harrisburg Campus, a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Washington and Jefferson College, and his principal certification from the University of Maryland. Dr. Frank will be joined by current assistant principal Mr. Jason Kingsborough, who has been at the Bear Creek School since its opening in 2011.

We will follow our regular recruiting and onboarding process to fill the void created by Dr. Frank’s new assignment. In addition, current acting dean of students Timothy Spiegel will return to the high school classroom next school year. As such, we will put a plan in place to fill the open dean of students position once the principal has been hired.

Ms. Amy Secor has accepted the position of assistant principal for East High Street Elementary School. Ms. Secor had been serving as acting dean of students for the school since December 2018.

In conclusion, I am confident the school administration District-wide, along with the talented and dedicated team of faculty and support staff, will continue to deliver the high quality education all of us have come to expect as members of EASD.

Please feel free to contact Mr. Daniel Serfass, assistant to the superintendent, by phone at (717) 367-1521, ext. 10004 or by email at should you have any questions or concerns.
