January 3, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,

January brings a very busy time in the school schedule.  With Keystone Exams, final exams, and the end of the 1st semester all planned for the near future, we wanted to share some pertinent information concerning the next several weeks:

Keystone Exams
The Keystone Exams for Algebra I, Literature, and Biology will be administered from January 7 – 17, 2019.  Students currently taking semester-length classes of Algebra I, English 10, and Biology will take these exams, along with students that are participating in the remediation program for this semester (not proficient on the Algebra I Keystone Exam in previous year and enrolled in a math course during 1st semester).  During the four days of Keystone Exams, students will test during the first two hours of the school day.  If a student is not taking the Keystones, they may come to school on a 2 hour delay schedule, but transportation to school is ONLY provided for the regular AM run. Students coming in 2 hours late must provide their own transportation.

Per state regulations, students that are participating in the Keystone Exams are not allowed to have electronic devices, including cell phones, with them during testing.  Please see the attached information from the Pennsylvania Department of Education regarding additional information.  To ensure proper test security, students will be asked to turn in their electronic devices during testing.  Paper and rubber bands will be provided to all students and all electronic devices will be kept in a clear plastic bin with the Test Administrator that is proctoring the exam session.  Students found to have electronic devices with them during testing will face possible disciplinary actions from the high school administration and their test will not be scored, requiring them to retake the entire exam.  Please note that these regulations are not meant to be punitive, but are necessary to maintain testing integrity and validity.

Keystone testing subjects are as follows:

  • January 8 and 9 – Algebra and Literature
  • January 10 and 11 – Biology

Final Exams
Students will take final exams for their first semester classes on January 16 and 17, 2019.

  • 12:40 – 1:10 - LUNCH
  • 1:15 – 2:40 - Period 2B

Thursday, January 17

  • 7:45 – 9:10 - Period 3A

  • 11:15 – 12:40 - Period 3B

  • 1:15 – 2:40 - Period 4B

If a student does not have a final exam during one of these exam times, they do not need to be at school, provided that they have their own transportation to/from school during their test time.  On January 16 and 17, there is no change in the daily transportation.  Students that are at school and not testing will remain in study hall.
