Transportation Eligibility
Students residing within the Elizabethtown Area School District that meet the following conditions may be eligible for transportation services to and from the students primary home address:
Primary Residency must be established through the Pupil Services Office - Central Registration.

Eligible students will receive transportation services assigned by the student's primary home address:
- No exceptions to this policy will be permitted for child care purposes.
Walking Distances
- The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) sets maximum walking distances, measured from where a residence’s driveway meets the public roadway.
- Under Pennsylvania law, the maximum allowable walking distances are 1.5 miles for elementary students and 2 miles for secondary students, either to school or to a bus stop.
- Elementary students (K–5) may walk up to 1 mile to a bus stop, while secondary students (6–12) may walk up to 1.5 miles.
- Walking routes may include areas without sidewalks along some portions of the route.
Elementary Students (Grades K – 5):
Eligible for transportation if they:
- Live more than 1 mile from their attending school (0.5 miles less than PDE’s maximum distance for elementary students).
- Live within 1 mile but in an area that has been declared hazardous by PennDOT.
Secondary Students (Grades 6 – 12):
Eligible for transportation if they:
- Live more than 1.5 miles from their attending school (0.5 miles less than PDE’s maximum distance for secondary students).
- Live within 1.5 miles but in an area that has been declared hazardous by PennDOT.
Non-Public School Students:
- Who attend a non-public school that is located ten (10) miles or less by paved public roadway from the Elizabethtown Area School District border.
- Transportation services are only provided to and from a student's District residence(s).
- The Elizabethtown Area School District is required to adhere to the calender's, start times, finish times and scheduled early dismissal dates when transporting students to Non-Public Schools.
