Air Quality in Our Schools
We are aware of concerns circulating about air quality and mold in our schools, and we want to provide accurate information and reassurance. The health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority, and we are committed to transparency about the steps we are taking.
What We Have Done So Far
- Dehumidifiers Installed: This summer, dehumidifiers were placed in our secondary school complex to help manage humidity levels and reduce conditions where mold could develop.
- Comprehensive Indoor Air Quality Survey: In August 2025, we contracted Cumberland Analytical Laboratories to conduct a thorough Indoor Air Quality Survey at all of our schools:
- Mold Testing Results: The survey included air sampling for airborne fungal spores. Results showed no unusual mold conditions existed at any of our schools at the time of testing. Cumberland Analytical Laboratories confirmed that no additional actions or interventions were warranted based on their findings.
Ongoing Monitoring and Next Steps
- Regular Maintenance: Our facilities staff continue to regularly maintain dehumidifiers, monitor humidity levels, and adjust settings as needed. They also keep a close watch on areas more prone to moisture.
- Quarterly Air Quality Testing: In September 2025, the School Board approved quarterly air quality testing for indicators beyond mold. We are exploring contracts with Cumberland Analytical Laboratories and other air quality experts for monthly testing to monitor a range of air quality indicators.
- Responsive Actions: If air quality conditions change or concerns are identified, the District will take immediate action, which may include:
- Additional testing
- Remediation
- Timely communication with families and staff
- Temporary closure of a school in the most serious circumstances
