Elizabethtown Second Graders Place Sixth at Global Sphero Robotics Championship

A team of five second-graders from East High Street Elementary School proudly represented Elizabethtown Area School District on the global stage at the 2025 Sphero Robotics World Championship. This marked EASD’s first-ever appearance in the prestigious international event.

The team, comprised of Tenley Owens, Abel Messick, Hazel Miller, Andrea Wang, and Job George, was one of only 16 teams worldwide in the K–2 division invited to compete in the championship round. The students earned their place through their innovative virtual submission earlier this year titled Indi's Jurassic Journey, where they programmed a Sphero robot to navigate a prehistoric-themed obstacle course they designed and built themselves.

At the championship, held in Spring 2025, the East High Street team put their programming, engineering, and problem-solving skills to the test against top-performing peers from around the globe. Through teamwork, creativity, and determination, the students earned an impressive sixth-place finish out of 16 international teams.

Eric Balak, the District’s gifted education teacher, served as the team’s faculty advisor, guiding and encouraging the students throughout the competition.

The District applauds the East High Street Elementary team for their hard work and for making history as the first EASD students to compete in the Global Sphero Challenge & Championship round.
