Elizabethtown Assistant Superintendent Dr. Daphne Kirkpatrick Advances Leadership Skills Through Education Policy Fellowship

As part of her Education Policy Fellowship Program, Dr. Daphne Kirkpatrick, the Assistant Superintendent of Elizabethtown Area School District, met with Pennsylvania State Senator Ryan Aument on November 1. Senator Aument was accompanied by his legislative assistant, Logan Hoover, who graduated from Elizabethtown Area High School in 2018.

During their meeting, Dr. Kirkpatrick had the chance to speak directly with Senator Aument about how public policy works and discuss important topics related to education. As part of her eight-month fellowship, Dr. Kirkpatrick is broadening her knowledge in public policy, building connections with local leaders, and enhancing her leadership capabilities through collaboration with professionals across various sectors, including education, government, and community organizations.

Dr. Kirkpatrick also took Senator Aument and Mr. Hoover to see the high school’s mock presidential debates, offering a glimpse into student engagement with current events and civic involvement.  Additionally, the visit included a tour of East High Street Elementary School, where Dr. Kirkpatrick and Megan Moffet, East High Street Elementary Principal, showcased classroom instruction and learning initiatives within the district.

The Education Policy Fellowship Program is a valuable opportunity that helps leaders in education and the community learn how to make a positive impact on public policy. Through this experience, Dr. Kirkpatrick aims to strengthen educational opportunities and build stronger community relationships within the Elizabethtown Area School District.
