Twenty-three students from Elizabethtown Area High School participated in the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association (LLMEA) High School Orchestra Festival held on Saturday, January 18, at Warwick High School. These talented students joined almost 200 of the best student musicians from Lancaster and Lebanon counties.
During the festival, the students rehearsed in one of three orchestra ensembles directed by Shenna Caravella (Festival Strings), Jennifer Petry (Philharmonic), and guest conductor Kelly Detwiler (Sinfonia). The ensembles performed pieces by classical composers including Tomaso Albinoni, Georges Bizet, Edward Elgar, and Gustav Holst, as well as contemporary composers like Richard Meyer and Kirt Mosier.
The student participants from Elizabethtown Area High School were Kathryn Armstrong, Cassidy Carl, Connor Dellinger, Jake Dunn, Caleb Fuge, Avery Grosh, Sarah Heinz, Dominic Hemsch, Julia Henry, Anna Hollinger, Sarah Klecanda, Laura Kleis, Leah MacKay, Grayson Marz, Reagan Rottet, Elizabeth Rothermel, Hayden Simione, Elaina Smith, Marley Stauffer, Madison Sullivan, Cooper Torborg, Makayla Weaver, and Abby Witmer.
Rich Winey is the orchestra director for the Elizabethtown Area High School.
LLMEA is an organization comprised of music educators from public and private schools in Lancaster and Lebanon counties. It is dedicated to fostering the musical arts through initiatives such as the annual music festivals for high school band, chorus, and orchestra students, as well as middle school ensembles.
