Elizabethtown Area High School is proud to spotlight its thriving Esports team, led by Coach Austin Henderson, as they hope to make waves in the highly competitive Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association (PIEA). This dynamic team showcases the school’s commitment to providing innovative extracurricular opportunities that prepare students for success both in and out of the classroom.
The Elizabethtown Esports team competes in two popular games: Super Smash Bros. and Overwatch 2. Representing the school on the Super Smash Bros. platform are students Nick Derr, Nick Melley, Richie Mort, Aaden Roush, Garrett Runnels, and Landon Warren. Competing in Overwatch 2 are Cam Cantey, Madeline Guerrisi, Logan Hall, Jackson Langlois, Anthony Lazzari, Jay Ortiz, and Liam Shriner.
Participation in Esports fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and time management while boosting self-esteem and creating a sense of belonging. In addition, high school Esports programs provide students with pathways to college scholarships, career opportunities in gaming and STEM fields, and the chance to represent their school at the local, state, and national levels.
The Elizabethtown Area High School Esports team is a testament to how technology and competition can come together to create meaningful educational experiences. As members of PIEA, these students are part of a movement that is reshaping the landscape of high school sports and preparing young people for the future.
