The students of Elizabethtown Area High School are proud to present their upcoming production of the timeless dark comedy, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” on November 7th and 9th at 7 p.m. and November 9th at 1 p.m. in the EAHS auditorium.
Written by Joseph Kesselring, this wickedly witty play first premiered in 1941 and has since become a staple of American theater, combining suspense, humor, and a touch of madness that will leave audiences in stitches.
Set in Brooklyn, “Arsenic and Old Lace” follows the eccentric Brewster family, whose seemingly charming facade hides a series of morbidly hilarious secrets. At the heart of the story are two kindly elderly sisters, Abby and Martha Brewster, who have developed a unique — and deadly — hobby: poisoning lonely old men with their homemade elderberry wine. Their nephew, Mortimer Brewster, a dramatic critic, stumbles upon their grim pastime and is thrust into a whirlwind of chaos involving his other family members, including his delusional brother Teddy, who believes he is President Theodore Roosevelt, and the villainous Jonathan, who is on the run from the law.
The play promises an evening of fast-paced dialogue, unexpected twists, and delightful characters, making it a must-see for both longtime theatergoers and newcomers alike. With its sharp wit and macabre humor, “Arsenic and Old Lace” masterfully blends farce with suspense, offering the perfect entertainment for the fall season.
Don't miss out on the chance to support the arts at EAHS!
