Elizabethtown Area High School Hosts Mock Student Debates

During the week of October 28 through November 1, Elizabethtown Area High School held a series of three mock student debates aimed at engaging students in the democratic process while fostering their public speaking and critical thinking skills. The debates featured students portraying key political figures in roles for the Senate, Vice Presidency, and Presidency.

In the mock Senate debate, Andrea Lopez represented Bob Casey (D) and Logan Ginder portrayed Dave McCormick (R). The Vice Presidential debate included Chloe Dellinger as Tim Walz (D), Paige Riegler as J.D. Vance (R), and Garrett Runnels as Mike ter Maat (L). In the Presidential debate, Aliyah Funk played Kamala Harris (D), Allison Krebs represented Donald Trump (R), and Colin Bomboy portrayed Chase Oliver (L).

Each debate was divided into two segments: the first featured government teachers acting as moderators, who asked pre-set questions, while the second segment was a town hall-style section that allowed students to pose their own questions, guided by the teachers.

The event emphasized the importance of civic participation and provided an engaging educational experience for both students and attendees.
