The Elizabethtown Area School District proudly honored 27 local veterans at its 16th annual Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11, 2024. This special event recognized the steadfast dedication of those who have served and continue to protect our nation, safeguarding the freedoms and values we hold dear.
The ceremony included a presentation of colors by the high school’s Navy National Defense Cadet Corps program, a student-led invocation and moment of silence, and readings by students on the history of Taps, Veterans Day, and a tribute poem. Elizabethtown Borough Mayor Chuck Mummert presented an official proclamation, followed by heartfelt remarks from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Nell. The high school band also performed musical pieces, honoring the exceptional valor of the veterans in attendance. The event concluded with a presentation of certificates, recognizing the veterans' service and dedication to our country.

More than just a tribute, the event served as an educational experience for middle and high school students, underscoring the significance of Veterans Day. It also provided an opportunity for the broader school community to express its deep gratitude and respect for our military service members.
Dr. Karen Nell, superintendent of schools, shared, "Our honorees here today, and veterans all across our country, deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. Veterans have taken on the daunting task of protecting our freedoms, often going into conflict zones for a cause that is larger than themselves, leading the way toward a safe, more just world.”
