The Elizabethtown Area High School Esports team won the Overwatch Spring Conference Championship yesterday, defeating Carlisle High School 3-0 at Alvernia University. This marks the team’s first-ever conference victory.

Competing in the highly competitive Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association (PIEA), both the Overwatch and Smash Bros teams from EAHS also qualified for the state playoffs, advancing to the next level of competition.

The Overwatch championship team members are:

  • Cameron Cantey
  • Madalyn Guerrisi
  • Jackson Langlois
  • Anthony Lazzari
  • Jaymian Ortiz
  • Liam Shriner

The Smash Bros team consists of:

  • Nick Derr
  • Nick Melley
  • Aaden Roush
  • Garrett Runnels
  • Landon Warren

Austin Henderson, the team’s coach, expressed his pride in the players’ achievements.

“This is a huge accomplishment for the team, and it’s been amazing to watch their hard work pay off,” Coach Henderson said. “I’m proud of both teams for making it to the state playoffs, and I’m looking forward to seeing how far they can go from here.”

Participation in Esports fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and time management while boosting self-esteem and creating a sense of belonging. In addition, high school Esports programs provide students with pathways to college scholarships, career opportunities in gaming and STEM fields, and the chance to represent their school at the local, state, and national levels.
