Elizabethtown Area High School joined schools and communities nationwide in recognizing Spirit Day on October 17, a day of action to show solidarity with LGBTQ+ youth and take a stand against bullying. Participation was voluntary with students having the option to wear purple to show solidarity with LGBTQ+ youth and take a stand against bullying. The event was organized by the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA).
The GSA is one of 39 student clubs and organizations at the high school, offering students a platform to connect, support one another, and advocate for positive change. As a student-led organization, the GSA creates a safe space where LGBTQ+ students and allies can build friendships, discuss relevant topics, and foster mutual respect within the school community.
Participation in Spirit Day aligns with the Elizabethtown Area School District’s Culture of Belonging initiative, which is designed to foster a supportive environment for all students, faculty, and staff. By promoting a sense of belonging and ensuring that every individual feels seen, heard, and empowered, the District helps its community members thrive both personally and academically.
Recognizing events like Spirit Day reflects the high school’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment where students from all backgrounds feel supported, valued, and safe to be themselves.
