East High Street Elementary Named a Leader in Me Lighthouse School

Elizabethtown Area School District is proud to announce that East High Street Elementary School has been recognized as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by FranklinCovey Education. This prestigious distinction affirms the school's excellence in cultivating leadership, achieving outstanding student outcomes, and positively impacting its school community.

This national recognition is a testament to the extraordinary efforts of East High Street Elementary's professional and support staff, students, and their families. Their collective commitment to fostering a culture of leadership, empowerment, and academic success has earned the school this honor.

Special recognition goes to the faculty members who served as Adult Lighthouse Team Leaders: Amanda Adams, Michelle Campbell, Tiffany Doughty, Carolyn Lehman, Whitney McElheny, Chrissy Pastor, Melissa Robinson, and Ashley Schwebel. Their leadership, along with that of Principal Megan Moffett, was instrumental in the successful implementation of the Leader in Me model.

Principal Megan Moffett expressed pride in the school’s accomplishment:

“Receiving Lighthouse Certification is such a proud moment for East High Street Elementary,” said Moffett. “This recognition represents nine years of commitment from our students and staff to living out the belief that every child is a leader. From our Student and Adult Lighthouse Teams to our Sunshine Greeters, morning announcers, and bus helpers, leadership is truly embedded in the fabric of our school.

Our students lead with heart—whether they're fundraising for Mini-THON, organizing a Thanksgiving food drive, or designing and maintaining a brand-new Free Little Library for our community. I’m bursting with pride for the teamwork, dedication, and deep sense of community that made this achievement possible.”

Lighthouse Certification is a highly regarded standard achieved by schools that have demonstrated measurable results aligned with the Leader in Me framework. It reflects a deep implementation of the principles outlined in the model, typically attained three to five years after adoption.

FranklinCovey Education evaluates schools seeking Lighthouse Certification through its rigorous Lighthouse Rubric, which assesses excellence in three core areas:

  • Teaching leadership principles
  • Creating a leadership culture
  • Aligning academic systems with leadership development

Certified Lighthouse Schools demonstrate:

  • Shared leadership among staff and students
  • Effective integration of leadership principles across the curriculum and school culture
  • Strong partnerships with families
  • Visible and authentic leadership opportunities for students
  • Schoolwide events that celebrate and practice leadership
  • Use of the 4DX® process (The 4 Disciplines of Execution) to identify and track Wildly Important Goals® (WIGs)
  • Student-led learning and goal-setting practices through Leadership Notebooks and Student-Led Conferences
  • A caring, trusting school culture that emphasizes student voice and engagement

Leader in Me is an evidence-based, K–12 model designed in collaboration with educators to empower students with the life-ready leadership skills needed to thrive in a dynamic world. Students in Leader in Me schools learn to set goals, manage time, resolve conflicts, value differences, and contribute positively to their communities—all through the lens of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People®.

East High Street Elementary will retain its Lighthouse Certification for two years. During this time, the school will continue to grow and refine its leadership culture. At the end of this period, it will undergo a virtual self-assessment to renew its designation, celebrating its continued progress and impact.

This achievement places East High Street Elementary among a global network of Lighthouse Schools, serving as a beacon for leadership excellence in the Elizabethtown Area School District and beyond.
