East High Street Elementary School hosted its Leader In Me Celebration of Learning on May 15, 2025. This annual tradition is a vibrant, student-led event designed to showcase leadership growth, academic achievement, and personal development.
The event featured a school-wide parade that reflected each student’s year-long journey in leadership and goal setting. East High Street Elementary implemented Leader In Me, a proven, evidence-based approach that helps schools build leadership in students, create a high-trust culture, and improve academic outcomes, nine years ago.
“The Celebration of Learning is more than just an event—it’s a powerful reminder of what happens when students are given the tools and trust to lead,” said Principal Megan Moffett. “You could see the pride on their faces as they shared their growth, their goals, and their voice. It’s a testament to the culture of leadership we’ve built together.”
The 7 Habits serve as the foundation for the program:
Starts with You
- Habit 1: Be Proactive
- Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind
- Habit 3: Put First Things First
Then Play Well With Others
- Habit 4: Think Win-Win
- Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
- Habit 6: Synergize
And Remember to Take Care of Yourself
- Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
After the parade, students rotated through a fun and interactive Sharpen the Saw Stations series. These included activities like Reading with Remi, the school’s beloved facility dog, cup stacking, rock wall climbing, parachute games, bean bag toss, and many more engaging experiences that emphasized wellness and balance.
East High Street Elementary extends a heartfelt thank-you to all the families, friends, and community partners who stopped by the school to cheer on the students during the morning parade. Your presence helped make the celebration even more meaningful and memorable for our young leaders.
The Leader In Me program is a key component of East High Street’s broader Culture of Belonging initiative, which strives to make school a welcoming, engaging, and safe place for all students. By emphasizing leadership and student voice, the school is fostering a culture where every child feels valued, empowered, and ready to lead.
