Bear Creek School recently hosted an energy-filled "Masked Reader" event, engaging students, families, and staff in a fun and interactive reading experience. Organized by the school’s Family and Community Partnership Leader in Me committee, this unique event brought the school community together to celebrate the joy of reading.
During the event, mystery readers—disguised behind masks—read a few pages from a selected book genre. Afterward, Assistant Principal Mike Pericci provided clues about the readers' identities, encouraging students to guess who was behind the mask. Excitement filled the room as students eagerly shared their guesses, with a few surprise appearances from recently retired staff members, making the event even more special.
The Masked Reader event was the official kick-off for Bear Creek's month-long Battle of the Books. Throughout the competition, students will vote for their favorite books in various genres each week, with the most popular selections advancing in the bracket. The Battle of the Books is designed to be a fun and interactive way to give students voice and expose them to different genres while fostering a love for reading.
The Family and Community Partnership within Leader in Me is committed to strengthening family engagement, building community connections, and supporting student success. Events like the Masked Reader exemplify this mission by bringing students, families, educators, and the broader community together through literacy and leadership.
