Elizabethtown Area High School Students Named National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Students

Elizabethtown Area High School students Kevin Rife and Kylee Wood have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, recognizing their outstanding academic achievement and promise.

Kevin and Kylee were recently honored during a small ceremony in the Bear Lobby at Elizabethtown Area High School. Principal Jason D'Amico and Superintendent Tom Strickler joined the students to recognize their accomplishment and celebrate the distinction.

Approximately 1.3 million students entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and meeting other program requirements. From those entrants, approximately 50,000 high-scoring students qualified for recognition through the program.

Kevin and Kylee are among approximately 34,000 students nationwide named Commended Students. They will receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. While Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some may be considered for Special Scholarships offered by corporate sponsors.

Their recognition follows the announcement earlier this school year that EAHS senior Laura Kleis was named a Semifinalist in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. Together, the honors recognize three EAHS students for their outstanding performance in this year's program.

This recognition reflects Kevin and Kylee's hard work, academic achievement, and commitment to learning.

This is the Elizabethtown Story.
