East High Second Graders Bring Fairy Tales and Tall Tales to Life

Second-grade students at East High Street Elementary School recently celebrated the completion of their CKLA Knowledge Unit on fairy tales and tall tales with a Colossal Flapjack Party inspired by Paul Bunyan.

Students were invited to dress as a favorite fairy tale or tall tale character as they celebrated the stories and larger-than-life figures they explored throughout the unit, including Paul Bunyan and Johnny Appleseed. With support from parent volunteers, the grade-level celebration provided a fun way for students to bring their learning to life.

The unit is part of the District’s Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum, which builds students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills while developing knowledge through topics in literature, history and science.

The Colossal Flapjack Party gave students an opportunity to celebrate what they learned while making connections to the characters, stories and traditions they encountered throughout the unit.

This is the Elizabethtown Story.
