Elizabethtown Area High School Hosts Public Policy Fair on Law Day

Elizabethtown Area High School hosted its annual Public Policy Fair on April 30, aligning with the American Bar Association’s Law Day. Modeled after the Center for Civic Education’s Project Citizen, the event gave students a hands-on opportunity to explore how public policy is developed and influenced.

Students in the Honors Government and Economics class worked individually or in teams to identify community or state issues, conduct research, and propose policy-based solutions. Topics addressed included homelessness, road maintenance and pothole repair, school crossing safety, school funding, roadway safety, and nutrition policy.

During the Fair, students presented their work to local and state leaders, engaging in discussions and responding to questions about their proposals. The initiative aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of civic processes and prepare them to participate as informed, active citizens.

Public officials and guests in attendance included Gina Mariani (Conoy Township Supervisor), Kelly Carter (School Board President), Sen. James Malone (PA Senate), Rep. Tom Jones (PA House), Larissa Bailey (representing Rep. Smucker’s congressional office), and Tom Strickler (Superintendent, Elizabethtown Area School District), along with other school leaders.
