Bear Creek Students Present Innovative Projects at Pennsylvania Invention Convention

Two teams of students from Bear Creek School demonstrated creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving at the Pennsylvania Invention Convention, held at the Hershey Lodge as part of the PETE&C Conference.

Under the guidance of gifted program teachers Eric Balak and Crystal Hirst, students developed original invention prototypes and presented their ideas to a panel of judges and conference attendees. Participants were required to articulate the problem their invention addressed, explain their research and design process, and demonstrate how their solution could make a meaningful impact.

The Pennsylvania Invention Convention recognizes young innovators who apply critical thinking and creativity to solve everyday challenges. Only the top three teams in each division receive awards, with the highest-ranking teams advancing to the national competition.

Competing in the elementary division, third-grade students Hazel Miller, Amelia Obetz, and Avery Zimmerman presented SafeCross, an invention designed to improve crosswalk safety. In the middle level division, fifth-grade students Jaden Allen, Aaron Helm, Brogan McCue, Kyle Southard, and Reid Young introduced the Smart Shower Timer, an invention aimed at promoting water conservation.

While neither team advanced to the national competition, both groups demonstrated strong analytical skills, perseverance, and teamwork throughout the invention process. The district commends the students and their teachers for their dedication and for representing the school community at the state level.
