Bainbridge Fire/Rescue Visits Kindergarten Students for Fire Awareness Month

As part of Fire Awareness Month activities, the Bainbridge Fire/Rescue Company paid a visit to Bainbridge Elementary School to meet with Kindergarten students and teach important fire safety skills.

Captain Zachary Slothower, Sergeant James Deiter, and Firefighter Jonathan Deiter led the session, explaining key fire prevention practices, including:

  • How to dial 911 in an emergency
  • Establishing a home escape plan and choosing a safe meeting place
  • The importance of checking smoke detectors regularly
  • How to safely exit a home in the event of a fire

Students also enjoyed a hands-on experience with Rescue 71, exploring the truck’s capabilities—including the Jaws of Life, hose system, onboard water supply, and other life-saving tools. Many students even had the chance to climb inside the vehicle.

The visit provided an engaging, age-appropriate introduction to fire safety, helping students understand how to stay safe at home and how to respond confidently in an emergency.
