Bear Creek Students Excel at 24 Challenge Math Competition

On Tuesday, May 21st, eight talented students from Bear Creek School traveled to the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13) to compete in the prestigious 24 Challenge Math Competition. They joined ninety-two other students from Lancaster and Lebanon counties in this exciting event, which focuses on enhancing computation skills. The game, created by Robert Sun of Suntex Corporation, challenges participants to manipulate four numbers to achieve the target number of 24.

The journey to the IU13 competition began with a District tournament in February. The 10-member Bear Creek team dedicated themselves to rigorous practice sessions starting in March, meeting two to three times per week. Their commitment to "seeing math" in new ways forged a close-knit group of competitors ready to showcase their skills.

Their hard work paid off as all eight Bear Creek participants walked away with individual achievements. Impressively, five of the eight competitors from Elizabethtown advanced to the top sixteen in the semi-finals, more than any other district. Two students further progressed to the finals, with Bear Creek proudly claiming both a first place and a fourth place win.

Competition Results:

  • 1st Place: Evie Kitchen
  • 4th Place: Lily Stouffer
  • Semi-finalists: Dominic Bollana, Adalyn Hoffman, and Angela Smith
  • Table Winners: Uriah Morris, Carter Prusasky, and Luke Yoder
  • Substitutes: Jacob Hirst and Timmy Leaman

The dedication and teamwork displayed by our students were truly remarkable, and their achievements reflect their hard work and passion for mathematics. Bear Creek School celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of all its students and looks forward to continued success in future competitions.
