Issues, Questions & Concerns

The Elizabethtown Area School District encourages parents and guardians to communicate with the District regarding their children. We want you to feel comfortable addressing your questions or concerns. We can resolve most issues at the school level in a timely manner with direct and respectful communication. When a question or concern does occur, please present your question or concern in the order outlined below.

STEP 1

Contact your child's classroom teacher directly to seek clarification or resolution to your question or concern. You can do this by calling the teacher and leaving a message for them to call you or email the teacher directly. If you do not hear from the teacher in a reasonable amount of time or if, after the discussion, the issue has not been resolved, move to Step 2.

STEP 2

Contact your child's building principal after speaking with your child's teacher. You can do this by requesting an in-person meeting or phone call. You can also communicate with your child's principal via email. Your child's principal will seek clarifying details about your question or concern and will want to confirm that you first spoke to your child's teacher and why you were dissatisfied with the suggested clarification or resolution. If you remain dissatisfied with the clarification or proposed solution offered by your child's principal, move to Step 3.

STEP 3

Email the appropriate district administrator listed below. Be sure to include specific details about your question or concern, the names of all the individuals with whom you have discussed your question or concern, and the dates of the conversations. After reviewing your email, the district administrator will contact you to discuss your question or concern. If you remain dissatisfied with the clarification or suggested resolution offered by the district administrator, move to Step 4.

Contact Dr. Daphne Kirkpatrick, Assistant Superintendent, at daphne_kirkpatrick@etownschools.org, for unresolved questions or concerns related to curriculum, instruction, and learning.

Contact Richard Schwarzman, Assistant to the Superintendent, at richard_schwarzman@etownschools.org for unresolved questions or concerns related to student supports.

STEP 4

Contact the district superintendent via email AFTER the previous three steps to resolve the situation have been followed. Be sure to include specific details about your question or concern, the names of all the individuals with whom you have discussed your question or concern, and the dates of the conversations. Next, the superintendent will arrange an in-person meeting or phone call to discuss your question or concern. This conversation MAY include all the involved parties. Finally, if you remain dissatisfied with the clarification or suggested resolution offered by the superintendent, move to Step 5.

Contact Dr. Karen Nell, Superintendent, at karen_nell@etownschools.org,

STEP 5

The Board of School Directors has been elected by the community to provide leadership and citizen oversight of the District. The Board shall ensure that the District is responsive to its goals and the community's values, beliefs, and priorities. If a satisfactory solution is not achieved by discussing it with the superintendent (step 4), contact the board secretary at the email below. The Board will refer any question or concern directed initially to the school board to the local level for resolution.

Rebecca Maxwell, Board Secretary, at becky_maxwell@etownschools.org.
