Military and College Recruiters
Federal law (Elementary and Secondary Education Act – ESEA) requires school districts to provide military recruiters and institutions of higher education, upon request, with student names, addresses, and telephone listings. Parents/guardians, however, have the right to opt their child out of these specific disclosures.
If you have already added your child to the FERPA Directory Information Opt-Out list, no further action is required. Students who are opted out of all directory information are automatically excluded from disclosures to military and college recruiters.
To ensure your request is processed before any information is released to military or college recruiters, families are encouraged to submit the Military/College Recruiter Opt-Out form by September 15. However, opt-out requests may be submitted at any time during the school year, and the District will honor them upon receipt.
If the District does not receive an updated opt-out request each year, it will be understood that you permit the release of your child’s name, address, and telephone listing to military recruiters and postsecondary institutions upon request, as required by federal law.
Requests to restrict the release of information to military or college recruiters should be submitted to:
Phil Shenk
District Data Supervisor
600 East High Street
Elizabethtown, PA 17022

Please note:
Until the District receives a written opt-out request, student directory information will be released to military recruiters and institutions of higher education upon request, as required by federal law.
