Ten Reasons EASD Is Special...

1) Our Mission

At the Elizabethtown Area School District, student learning is at the center of everything we do. We strive to create personalized opportunities for ALL students to develop a foundation to be LIFE READY upon graduation. In addition, we recognize the vital role our public school system plays in our local, regional, national, and global landscapes. It is not too grandiose to think that we ARE developing tomorrow’s innovators, thinkers, community members, and civic leaders. We cannot fail in our mission of Every Student Graduates Ready to Live, Learn, and Thrive in a Global Community.

2) Life Ready Model

EASD defines LIFE READY as helping our students achieve their dreams and aspirations for their future. Therefore, our entire K-12 system must work together to achieve this goal by offering age-appropriate, meaningful academic and career-ready experiences responsive to the ever-changing modern economy. LIFE READY looks different to each of our students at their graduation. For some, it could be positioning themselves to be successful at the post-secondary level. For others, it is having the ability to enter the workforce and earn a livable wage. Yet, for others, their desire may be to enter a branch of our armed services upon graduation.

3) The 4 A's

At Elizabethtown, our core mission is to help our students become LIFE READY at graduation, not simply score well on a standardized test. As such, we focus on providing a comprehensive array of opportunities, personalized learning experiences, and core instruction in four main areas (The 4 A's):

  • Academics
  • The Arts
  • Athletics & Extracurricular Activities
  • Altruism

In contrast to standardized test scores that can be impacted by many factors, success in the 4 A's is a year-long effort. Achieving broad success in each of these four areas is important for our students to graduate ready to live, learn, and thrive in a global community.

4) Culture of Belonging

The District recognizes that our students come with different motivations for their learning experience related to their level of engagement, behavior, and academic performance. Therefore, removing barriers that may have arisen through changes to family circumstances, learning needs and exceptionalities, and/or physical or mental health challenges is essential to empowering our students to choose a meaningful and relevant path after graduation. As such, our goal is to provide a comprehensive system of programs and services that address the specific needs of each student for that student to achieve their highest potential.

5) Etown Cyber

Etown Cyber offers a robust educational program for students K-12 that want to pursue their education in a non-traditional format. The program's flexibility is designed to meet the individualized needs of our students. Unlike outside cyber charter schools where students may be in a class with teachers and classmates from across the Commonwealth, students enrolled in Etown Cyber remain with their local school district.

6) Dedicated Employees

The Elizabethtown Area School District believes that a significant component of ensuring our students are "Life Ready" at graduation is providing a dedicated, skilled team of professional and support staff working tirelessly to give our students the best education possible. As such, we recruit and hire the most qualified candidates balancing experience, education, and skills with the desired attributes for the position. Investing in a high-quality teaching force positively impacts student achievement, growth, and attendance rates. Experience, education level, mentorship for new teachers, professional development for all teachers, and growth within our school system are all critical contributors to establishing a culture of belonging, value, and voice for students and their families.

7) Post-Secondary Dual Credit Opportunities

For students interested in a post-secondary education after graduation, active engagement in the college-preparation process while still in high school is critical to their future success. Research has proven that student engagement at the high school level in college prep classes leads to higher post-secondary success rates. Providing our students with opportunities to exhibit their knowledge, skills, and abilities in college-level courses is integral to our post-secondary readiness platform. At Elizabethtown, students can take a variety of traditional college prep classes aligned with their interests and career aspirations. Additionally, when appropriate, students can get introduced to the rigors of post-secondary coursework by choosing from a multitude of college-level offerings during their high school years, including Advanced Placement level, Dual Enrollment, and College in the High School offerings.

8) Safe Schools

The safety of our students, faculty, support staff, administration, and school visitors is a top priority of the Elizabethtown Area School District. We believe that our students have a right to come to school each day in an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. We also recognize that school safety is not accomplished in isolation. We proactively seek partnerships with our first responders and local emergency management experts. Additionally, we value community input and support in identifying potential risks and threats within the greater-Elizabethtown community.

You can find more information about the Elizabethtown Area School District's safe schools efforts, including our philosophy, and practices, in the Safety & Security section of our website.

9) Personalized Learning Initiative

The Elizabethtown Area School District's 1:1/Personalized Learning initiative aims to transform the way students learn. This program provides a laptop for each student in grades 4-12 for educational use during school hours and at home. Using 1:1/Personalized Learning computing, students are empowered to take a more active role in course instruction through greater access to technology resources.

10) Amazing Students

Our students are a continued source of pride and a big reason our District is a first-rate public school system. Whether it is encouraging and helping one another, participating in our programs and activities, or serving as ambassadors across the region and state, our students make remarkable contributions to our school district daily.
