Meet the Superintendent & Chief Financial and Operations Officer

Tom Strickler was appointed Superintendent of the Elizabethtown Area School District effective July 1, 2026. He also serves as the District’s Chief Financial and Operations Officer, a role he assumed in June 2023 following an extensive search process.

Mr. Strickler was appointed Interim Superintendent in 2026 and successfully led the District while continuing to oversee its financial and operational functions. During his tenure in Elizabethtown, he has played a key role in advancing several major initiatives, including implementation of the District’s Comprehensive Plan and the early phases of the Middle School/High School Building Project. He is recognized for his collaborative leadership style, commitment to students, and focus on continuous improvement.

Prior to joining Elizabethtown, Mr. Strickler served as Superintendent of the Columbia Borough School District, where he directed district operations, strategic planning, personnel management, curriculum oversight, fiscal administration, and board relations. He worked closely with district leadership to strengthen organizational effectiveness, secure resources, and support student achievement.

Mr. Strickler also served as Director of Operations for the Eastern Lancaster County School District (ELANCO). In that role, he led a comprehensive review of expenditures and operational practices that resulted in more than $500,000 in savings while implementing systems designed to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness. His professional experience also includes leadership positions with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and in the private sector.

A graduate of Elizabethtown College, Mr. Strickler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

Mr. Strickler remains actively engaged in professional and community organizations, including the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, the Mental Health Association of Lancaster County, the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators, and Junior Achievement of Central Pennsylvania. He has also served as a board member of the Underground Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and Prima Theatre and is an active PIAA basketball official.

Mr. Strickler believes that achieving excellence requires a shared commitment to students, collaboration, accountability, and continuous growth. He is committed to working alongside students, staff, families, and the community to advance the mission and vision of the Elizabethtown Area School District.
