Meet the Assistant to the Superintendent

Richard Schwarzman was named Assistant to the Superintendent for Student Support Services and Compliance in July 2016. This is the latest in a number of administrative roles

Mr. Schwarzman has held since joining the Elizabethtown Area School District team in 2001. Mr. Schwarzman had been serving as Assistant to the Superintendent for Secondary Education since July 2008.  He has also served a brief stint in the central office as the Director for Schools and Learning during the 2007-2008 school year. Mr. Schwarzman began his tenure with the district as middle school principal before being named supervising principal of both the middle and high schools in 2004.

Prior to joining the Elizabethtown Area School District, Mr. Schwarzman was the assistant principal at Eagle View Middle School in the Cumberland Valley School District. He began his career in education teaching biology, biochemistry, anatomy, and dissection at Gettysburg Area High School before becoming a middle school physical science teacher in the Cumberland Valley School District. Mr. Schwarzman holds a master's degree in education administration from Shippensburg University and a bachelor's of science degree in biology from Mount Saint Mary's College.

Mr.Schwarzman has extensive knowledge on middle level philosophy, high school reform, and data analysis, as well as the Pennsylvania State standards. He also has administrative expertise in the areas of school improvement, instructional leadership, professional staff development and performance evaluation, organizational planning, and program assessment. He has presented at multiple state conferences on the culture and climate of middle schools.

Mr. Schwarzman is looking forward to refining district initiatives and ensuring a fluid transition from the elementary level to the secondary level. Mr. Schwarzman's goal is to work with the knowledge and talents of district students and move them from a "can do environment" to a "will do environment."
