I can’t believe that the year is almost over! I’ve really enjoyed working with all of my students. If you are interested in summer camps for your student, please see the “Additional Resources for Parents” link on the left-hand side of this page. Have a great summer!

Students presented their projects to the class today. They did a great job with them. We also snacked on a few goodies.

    1st/2nd

We watched a slideshow of pictures from throughout the year while snacking. Then a student shared his magic tricks with us, teaching us a few things. We also played a little chess.

Today we finished the projects, practiced presenting, and then had two students present today. They shared their Family Tree slideshow and Poseidon-related models from Greek Mythology.

    1st/2nd

We tested our egg catcher platforms outside. They found the tallest piece of playground equipment, set up their platforms, and then dropped their eggs. All of the eggs survived! Then we played a little chess.

Everyone worked on making his or her project today. Pictures were cut out, book pages were created, mobiles were started, diorama bases were built, and additional research was done.

    2nd

Today we spent the entire time on the supplies drop task. They reviewed the available materials, planned their design, drew their design, and built it. The one landing pad safely caught the supplies (egg) when the egg was dropped at both the 1 meter and 2 meter heights. The other landing pad only successfully caught the supplies from the 1 meter height. Next time we will do some redesigning and test them outside from the tallest piece of playground equipment that we can find!

We finished researching today and everyone began working on deciding what to make. Many of them figured out what they wanted to do and began planning it. A few even began making their project. Projects include 3D posters, dioramas with Little Bits, slideshows, and books.

    1st/2nd

We continued working on The Island. They researched another animal and added to their stories. Then they began brainstorming ideas for the landing pad that they need to design and build for the supplies drop. (Their team needs more supplies, but the helicopter can’t land. An egg will represent the supplies).

We continued researching our selected topics using the iPads. We had a lot of conversations going as students discovered interesting facts about their topics. Topics include Greek myths, Egyptian rulers, the history of video games, family trees, rainforest animals, Pluto, and dinosaurs.

    1st/2nd

Today we took a break from The Island and worked on Scribble Journals. It was an exercise in creativity as each page held a scribble that they needed to turn into something else.
