The E-town Mock Election is a general election simulation run by the teachers and students of the E-town High School's Government and Economics courses for the purpose of experiencing first hand the work and strategy that goes into the running of a political campaign. The simulation is run every two (2) years and touches on national, state, and local races that effect directly the Elizabethtown area and students themselves. Subjects in the simulation included campaign management and planning, campaign finance, public opinion and polling, image and political advertisements / ads, debate preparations, political rallies, and understanding major issues important to the voting public (aka the E-town student body). The simulation culminates with a series of campaign debates for the High School student body, a "Rock the Vote" rally on Election Day morning, and an Electoral College-style / popular vote with student homerooms getting the final say through their ballots. Our hope is that all students at E-town High School (not just our Gov / Econ students) come out of the simulation with a greater appreciation for American citizenship and a desire to get involved in civics at the local, state, and national levels, especially during an election year.
