Children Understanding and Building Skills is one of the special area classes that students grades 1-3 have each week.

In CUBS students learn about various topics including character education, knowledge of self, understanding differences, wellness, and academic and social skills.  We also work to build the culture and climate of our school to create leadership in each of our students.

Students are also learning to be “bucket” fillers.  The concept of bucket filling is an effective way for encouraging kind and considerate behavior.

  • CUBS in September and October

Posted by Jill Flemming on 11/1/2013
The students at Rheems Elementary school have been very busy in CUBS class during the months of September and October.  We started out the school year learning about bucket filling.  Please visit  http://www.bucketfillers101.com/ for more information about bucket filling.  Also, we spent some time getting to know ourselves and each other better.  Students reviewed listening (first and second grade) and organization (third grade) skills to increase their academic success in the classroom.

During International Peace Week our students explored ways to make our school peaceful.  First grade focused on including others, second grade shared ways they can be a peacemaker, and third grade reviewed the tools necessary for making and keeping friends.

Several weeks of CUBS lessons were devoted to helping the students be successful in other areas of our building like the cafeteria and playground.  Students were reminded or learned (first grade) that Cafeteria Leaders...

    • What does bullying look like?
    • How does bullying make people feel?
    • Who can help if you or someone you know is being bullied?
    • What are the Rheems Bullying Rules?
