PA Youth Survey

  • Pennsylvania Youth Survey - Parental Permission Letter

    2021-2022 School Year

The Elizabethtown Area School District will conduct the biennial Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS) on November 22 and November 23. This survey is for students in sixth, eighth, tenth, and twelfth grades only and will ask questions about school climate, violence, bullying, and substance abuse. The information we receive will assist the District and our community partners in selecting appropriate prevention and intervention programs to address such problems as alcohol, tobacco, other drug use, and violence in our schools and communities.

PAYS is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. The survey is well tested, having been administered to over one million Pennsylvania students since the 1990s. The information collected has proved invaluable to prevention planners in selecting programming to promote healthy youth development.

As a parent, you have the right to opt-out your child from taking part in the survey. As such, the District wants to provide you with as much information as possible about PAYS. The following facts about the survey will help you make an informed decision about your child’s participation:

    • Student participation in the survey is voluntary.
    • The survey is anonymous and confidential, with no identifying information or questions.
    • Students will not put their names on the survey.
    • Our teachers will instruct students to skip any questions they do not understand or choose not to answer.
    • After taking this survey, students who have questions or concerns will be instructed to talk with their school counselor or a trusted adult.
