Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Nancy Shull Becker
My path to school nursing has been a long and winding road but I am happy to have reached the Middle School as my destination!
After initially pursuing a different field, I went to The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1993 for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I worked for two years on a medical unit providing care to underserved inner-city adult residents. Acknowledging pediatrics was always my first love, I moved to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit before taking time off to stay home with my newborn son.
My husband, son, and I moved back to my hometown of Elizabethtown to be closer to family in 1998. I enjoyed working part time at Holy Spirit Hospital's Outpatient Surgery Center while also starting to substitute in our schools and growing our family with two more children. In 2010 I became a regular employee of the District as a Health Room Nurse and also completed Millersville's school nurse certificate program. When a Certified School Nurse position opened up at the Middle School in 2014, I was excited to take on new responsibilities! Since then, I've completed by Master's of Science in Nursing at Eastern Mennonite University, a certificate in Trauma and Resilience in Healthcare Settings (also at EMU) and a post-master's certificate in Nursing Education at Millersville.
Part of my job as a CSN is managing chronic conditions in schools. View this video from the Centers for Disease Control to get more information.
