Middle School Mathematics Philosophy
The goal of the middle school mathematics department is to prepare students for continual success in mathematics classes and standardized exams.  We also want to guide students to make connections between math concepts and real world applications.

Course Information

7th Grade Mathematics

  • Course Description - The seventh grade mathematics course thoroughly integrates all NCTM curriculum standards.  The course uses technology, projects, writing, and common assessments to assure the following topics are covered: problem solving, statistics, fractions and decimal operations, number patterns, ratios, proportions, percents, geometry and algebraic concepts.
  • Textbook - Holt Mathematics Course 2
    • Students may use this to access the homework assignments.  They are listed according to the chapter and lesson they are associated with in the textbook.
    • Once in the lesson, students can click to see a video that explains to the students how to complete the homework problems correctly.  Extra problems are also available along with a step-by-step description of how the problem can be solved.
    • Please keep in mind that some of the strategies that the textbook uses to complete problems may be slightly different than the methods they were taught in class.
  • Instructional Resources*

      • All 7th Grade Students have access to the First in Math Program.
      • Students should have a Member ID Card with their username and password.

    • Scientific Calculator (TI-30X-IIB) - this is suggested, but not required

Pre-Algebra

  • Course Description - Pre-Algebra is an introduction to basic algebraic skills and concepts needed to be successful in an Algebra I course.  The Pre-Algebra course will also address state standards and address concepts found in the 8th grade mathematics assessment anchors.
  • Course Prerequisites - Student placements are based on test scores, grades, and teacher recommendations.

Algebra I
  • Course Description - This is the first of two algebra courses designed to help students understand the abstract concepts of algebra. Content includes general computation, expressions, equations, problem
    solving, graphing, and inequalities. 
  • Text Book - McDougal Littel Algebra I 2007 Edition
    • Students may use this link above to access the homework assignments. Homework assignments are posted on the Homework Hotline section of the Middle School website.
    • Once in the lesson, students can click to see a powerpoint lesson that explains to the students how to complete the homework problems correctly. Extra problems are also available along with a step-by-step description of how the problem can be solved.
