Virtual Backpack As part of Elizabethtown Area School District’s ongoing effort to contain expenditures while preserving the programs and services that have the greatest impact on our quality educational program, the District makes use of a Virtual Backpack. The Virtual Backpack is a paperless solution to home-school communication. As part of this new “green” approach to distributing information, important school district notices, flyers, letters, and  other correspondences will be placed online in lieu of sending them home in a child’s backpack or through the mail. This eco-friendly solution will help to eliminate the risk of important notifications getting lost in transit, overlooked, or delayed in the mail, as well as save the District significant dollars for paper, printing, labor, and mailings. The Virtual Backpack can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Contents will be added on an ongoing basis and maintained in the Virtual Backpack for the entire school year. Virtual Back postings are categorized by their intended audience (district-wide, elementary, middle school, high school), although all items are open to the public at all times. To access postings, click on one of the four backpack links to the left or below. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to visit the site on a regular basis to stay informed about District operations. The Virtual Backpack does not replace regular communication from teachers. Teachers will continue to send home assignments and other materials so parent(s)/guardian(s) should check their child’s backpack frequently for school and classroom news. In addition, from time to time the District will have the need to send home a communication directly with students. The Virtual Backpack will mainly house communications from the District Office about important matters relating to an individual school and/or the District as a whole. Printed copies of all Virtual Backpack postings will be available to anyone who does not have Internet access or prefer a paper copy. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need a printed copy of the postings. Register for Virtual Backpack E-Alerts Parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to register to receive Virtual Backpack E-Alerts, which are district-generated emails that will notify you anytime a new item is added to one of the four Virtual Backpacks. To register for Virtual Backpack E-Alerts, follow the three easy steps below: Step 1 - Become an EASD website account holder if you are not already registered Click on the Register tab in the top right corner. Complete the form and make sure the "Please send me E-Alerts from this site" is checked. Step 2 - Sign In Sign into the EASD website using your username and password. You will know you are signed in if it says My Account in the top right corner. Step 3 - Subscribe to E-Alerts Click on the My Account tab in the top right corner and click on the Edit Account Settings. A form will appear. Click on the Subscriptions tab and then Add Area tab. Step 4 - Select Areas of Interest Place a check box in the Elizabethtown Area School District box under Sites and then click on the Other Areas tab. Scroll down to find the Virtual Backpack listing and check the box. Click I'm Done tab. Congratulations, you have subscribed to the virtual backpack. Related Links: |
