  • Course Description - This course begins with the election of Thomas Jefferson. It surveys the early years of the Republic, the impact of the Jacksonian Era and the questions of slavery, the Civil War and Reconstruction. The course concludes with a study of the changing character and role of the United States through industrialization, the development of the West, the increase of governmental regulations and the Age of Imperialism. The class will utilize enrichment activities and supplemental readings to develop critical reading and thinking skills.
