Board Of School Directors
A nine-member elected school board, all of whose members live within the school district boundaries, governs the Elizabethtown Area School District. The school board's primary role is to formulate
and evaluate all policies needed for the operation of the school
district. Directors design and set policies within the framework of the {Board}
Pennsylvania School Code. District staff are charged with administering the policies in accordance with the guidelines established within. All policies must comply with state regulations and
statutes. Pennsylvania
school law guides the board in its responsibilities, which are as follows:

Exercising leadership and drafting district policy.

Employing a Superintendent of schools.

Authorizing the appointment of teachers and other staff members upon the recommendation of the administration.

Supporting curriculum development and revisions, adopting textbooks.

Securing monies for district operational needs, building projects, and authorizing the expenditure of funds.

Representing the public and community in their views concerning educational matters.
School directors are elected at-large on odd-numbered years to four-year terms. The board elects its leadership (i.e. president and vice president) to one-year terms during the first week of December. Additionally, a treasurer and secretary are elected to one and four-year terms respectively in May with each term beginning in July.
Board meetings are typically held on the second and third Tuesday of every month in the high school's large group instruction room located at 600 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise advertised) and are open to the public. Meeting agendas and minutes can be accessed online by clicking here. The first meeting of the month is usually conducted as a workshop session with the second meeting of the month being an action meeting.

- December 7 and 14 (Note: December 7 is the reorganizational meeting while the December 14 meeting will be an action meeting)
