Elizabethtown Area High School students got a personalized dose of civic education and participation this spring semester thanks to series of student “town halls” with local and state political and community leaders, hosted by the Elizabethtown Area High School Social Studies Department.
Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Samantha Bostdorf and Levi Greenly were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of month for May. Bostdorf and Greenly were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities.
Taurus Racing from the Elizabethtown Area School District placed first at the F1 in Schools USA National Finals held at the Michigan International Speedway. Taurus Racing is made up of twelfth grader Makayla Schaar, tenth graders Hailey Schaar and Gage Schatz, ninth graders Luke Snyder and Logan Vogelsong, and eighth grader Michael Perrin.
Elizabethtown Area School District physical education teacher Barbara Shenk has been named a 2016 Teacher Impact Award Winner. Shenk will join the seven other award-winning educators from across the Susquehanna Valley at a banquet to be held in their honor on May 23.
The Masonic Village at Elizabethtown recently presented a check for $15,000 to the Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation to benefit the foundation’s educational classroom grant program. Over the past eighth years, the Masonic Village has gifted the foundation $120,000 for its grant program.
Eighteen sixth graders from the Bear Creek School will be participating in NASA’s Cubes in Space 2016 program. Cubes in Space is a STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) competition that encourages students ages 11-18 to submit experiments for launch into space.
During the month of May, the students, faculty, and staff of the Elizabethtown Area School District will join forces with the American Cancer Society by hosting a series of mini Relay for Life events.
Under the direction of sixth grade teacher Erick Witteman, thirty-seven sixth graders from the Bear Creek School recently took to the stage to bring the Shakespearean classic Henry V to life for their parents, teachers and classmates.
The Elizabethtown Area School District recently earned two 2016 Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association (PenSPRA) awards for excellence in school communication. The prestigious awards were announced in April as part of PenSPRA’s Excellence in Education Communications Contest.
To help drive home the tragic consequences of drunk driving, Elizabethtown Area High School held its Prom Promise Mock Accident program for juniors and seniors on Tuesday, May 3. The program was designed to emphasize the tragic consequences of drunk driving and was timed to coincide with the upcoming junior/senior prom.
